Description

Project managers face a complex challenge in launching and guiding a project team to a successful conclusion. This workshop introduces a team effectiveness framework and provides project managers with tools and techniques to build a “PRO” project team.

Project managers will acquire tools, techniques, and skills that enable them to:

  1. Develop and drive team direction and goals
  2. Provide a project culture in which team members can relate to the work and to one another
  3. Establish and maintain clear roles, processes, and project structure
  4. Optimize team performance through camaraderie, pride, and a high-performance team ethic

Project managers will also take away coaching skills and best practices. This workshop emphasizes the people side of team leadership and complements technical training around project planning and execution.

Objectives

  • Organize and focus your efforts as a team leader to ensure team success and pride
  • Acquire skills and tools to lead and manage each domain of team effectiveness
  • Develop coaching skills to ensure maximum contribution from each team member throughout the life of each project
  • Recognize the critical importance of a holistic approach to team leadership, i.e., both the technical and human aspects
  • Be able to focus leadership actions in the appropriate domain of team effectiveness by learning how to:
    • Clarify and re-communicate the project team’s charter and adapting it over time, as necessary
    • Know when to refocus the team on the charter to drive coordinated action across deliverables and tasks
    • Analyze skill and experience requirements, and staff the project for success
    • Work with the team to develop the correct roles, processes, and work structures
    • Develop operating principles and norms that drive high-performance, camaraderie, and mutual support
  • Build capability in coaching by learning how to:
    • Use questions to drive the coaching process thereby, ensuring each individual owns their own development and performance
    • Give constructive project performance feedback with a coaching mindset
  • Utilize a framework to guide leadership actions for project teams
    • Customized for the project management environment
    • Three key domain areas (purposing, relating, optimizing)
  • Techniques, tools, and skills to coach the team to successful results
